You've been thinking about
it, your friends and family have been encouraging, and now you think
you're finally ready to buy your first home! What an exciting time!
Buying a home is one of the biggest purchases you'll ever make and you
want to do it right, but where do you start? Here's an easy list that will
help make your home buying experience a great one.
-
Weight Your Benefits
- If you haven't already done so, take a look at the reasons you think
you should buy a home. Make a list of the pros and cons of buying
a new home and get comfortable with the idea of spending a large amount of money on
your home. There are at least 8 really good reasons to buy a
home, make sure you've looked at them and know the decision you're
making is the right one so you can move on to the next step.
-
Know Where You Want
to Look - In today's fast-paced world, most home shopping begins on
the internet. You can search through 1000
of listings, sort through photographs, get neighborhood reports and
school information. At this point you will have a clearly defined idea
of the style of home and the areas you want to call home.
-
Get Pre-Approved For a
Loan - One of the most important criteria to finding your new home
is finding out what a lender is willing to help you with in terms of
financing. If you don't know how much you can spend, you shouldn't start
looking because you may be disappointed when the time comes to get
financing. Getting a pre-approval on a loan puts your agent at ease and
lets the sellers know you are a serious buyer who is ready to move
forward.
-
Select Your Buyer's
Agent - Now, you're really motivated and ready to move. The best
option is to find a real estate agent that can help you find the perfect
property for your and your family. A Buyer's Agent will offer many
services that will not only help the
process go smoothly, but keep it fun. They are your ticket into the
homes you'd like to see up-close and they will help guide you through
the possible pitfalls of purchasing a home.
-
Finding What You Want
- If you've done some research, and if the agent you've selected has
taken the time to listen to what you're needs and desires are, you
should be able to find the home of your dreams within a two week period.
Your time is valuable so why spend time looking at
homes that don't meet your needs? When going out to view homes, you
should expect to look at homes that fall within the parameters you have
set and more than likely find one pretty quickly.
-
Rate What You've Seen
- When visiting homes don't be afraid to take photos of the house
(starting with the outside and working inwards), notes on what you see,
the surroundings, the location and how you feel about it overall. This
will help weed out the homes that are not for you from the ones that
could possibly be yours. Ask as many questions as you need to get a good
feel for the homes, that will help you when you're processing the
information on your own later.
-
View Homes a Second
Time - If you find there are a few homes on your list that seem to
pull your attention, those are likely the ones that are most right for
you. Ask for a second tour. Your agent will be happy to show you a home
again in order to help you make up your mind. You'll also be able to
take a closer look and maybe see more than you saw the first time. If,
after viewing a home a second time, you find you are still interested,
ask your agent to contact the seller's agent to find out more on the
property, make sure it's still available for sale and if there are any
current offers on the table.
-
Make Your Selection
- Once you feel a home is the right one your agent will sit down with
you and write up an offer to be sent to the seller's agent.

Agent!! Let me answer any questions you may have about the buying
